Dhaka, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Awami League party of Bangladesh on Wednesday criticized the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, accusing it of transforming the nation into a "graveyard of human lives".
Expressing serious concern, the party remarked that as the costs of basic necessities continue to escalate, the value of life in the country appears to be diminishing.
“Currently, every area of besieged Bangladesh resonates with the wails of those mourning their loved ones. In marketplaces, agricultural fields, riverbanks, and even within homes—corpses are found everywhere. The Awami League's leaders and activists are enduring horrific torture and oppression for opposing the orchestrated schemes of Yunus and his ruthless followers aimed at dismantling the nation. They are even being executed without mercy,” stated a declaration from the Awami League.
Condemning the Yunus administration, the party claimed that the indiscriminate murders of Awami League leaders and supporters nationwide were executed according to a premeditated strategy. It mentioned that recently, Awami League figure Tariq Rifat from Gaibandha District was killed in prison, while in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area, Al-Amin, the General Secretary of the Awami League’s student organization Chhatra League from Comilla district, was slain.
The Awami League emphasized that its leaders and activists continue to be victims of targeted murders, and ordinary citizens are also deprived of security for their lives and properties in what they describe as an “insecure” Bangladesh.
“We vehemently condemn and protest against these killings perpetrated by the bloodthirsty, demonic faction of Yunus. Today, the families of the victims are unable to even contemplate obtaining justice—let alone filing a report with the police. We want to make it explicitly clear that in the near future, everyone involved in these killings will face justice and severe punishment,” the party asserted.
Earlier on Tuesday, the party declared a series of nationwide protests lasting until November 30, demanding Yunus's resignation and rejecting the verdict of the country’s “illegitimate” International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
