In a letter dated June 3, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated, “I am pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Rural Development has approved a target of 10,29,957 houses for your state during 2025-26, aimed at the remaining eligible beneficiaries identified in the finalized Awaas 2018 survey. This initiative will fulfill the waiting list in Maharashtra and align with the Government of India's vision of ‘Housing for All’ in rural areas.”
Chouhan emphasized the ministry's commitment to effectively implementing the PMAY (Rural) program in Maharashtra.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also expressed thanks to Prime Minister Modi for the additional housing sanction for the fiscal year 2025-26 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural).
In a post on X, Shinde stated: “The Modi government has sanctioned 10,29,957 new houses for Maharashtra under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), bringing the total to 44,70,829 from 33,40,872. This follows the earlier approval of 20 lakh houses. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ji for this announcement.”
Earlier, Chief Minister Fadnavis and Union Minister Chouhan participated in the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) Beneficiary Meet’ and the ‘MahaAwas Abhiyan State-Level Award Distribution Program’ in Pune.
During the event, they symbolically presented house keys to several beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana.
Fadnavis mentioned that the central government has set a target of 30 lakh houses for rural Maharashtra under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural, ensuring every resident receives a house.
“This will involve an investment of Rs 80 thousand crores in rural areas, making Maharashtra the first state to guarantee housing for everyone,” he added.
He noted that the Maharashtra government has committed to addressing housing needs by providing an additional Rs 50,000, along with Rs 1 lakh under the Deendayal Upadhyay House Purchase Financial Assistance Scheme. Plans are also underway to install solar panels in PMAY homes. The Rural Development Department is rapidly working to ensure timely housing.
Fadnavis highlighted innovative solutions such as two-storey houses and housing complexes to address space shortages, as well as measures to provide uncultivated land and extend village boundaries for housing benefits.
Union Minister Chouhan remarked that today marks a proud and historic moment, as the promise of housing rights for all rural residents in the state is being fulfilled.
After today's approval of 10 lakh houses, no one will be left without a home. This initiative will not only provide shelter but also stimulate the rural economy through an investment of Rs 65 thousand crores from the earlier approved 20 lakh houses.
Chouhan assured that a new survey will be carried out to include those whose names are missing from the 2018 list, guaranteeing that every homeless individual will receive a home.
