Nagpur, Aug 1 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged the administration to expedite the establishment of a world-class Sanskrit university in Waranga, near Nagpur, modeled after the nearby National Law University.
This announcement came during the inauguration of the Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar International Gurukul and the foundation laying of the Student Building at Waranga.
In attendance were notable figures including RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, Minister of Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Finance Ashish Jaiswal, Vice Chancellor Hareram Tripathi, and Founder Vice Chancellor Pankaj Chande.
During his address, CM Fadnavis highlighted the contributions of Shrikant Jichkar and former Vice Chancellor Pankaj Chande in laying the groundwork for this Sanskrit language university.
Originally, the university was set to be located in Ramtek, named after the renowned poet-culturist Kalidas. However, to enhance its global reach as a center of Sanskrit knowledge, the decision was made to develop this complex in Waranga, recognized as an educational hub in Ramtek taluka and close to Nagpur. A world-class Sanskrit university will thus be established here.
He elaborated, “Many ancient cultures have faded away, yet Indian culture remains vibrant. The preservation of this culture is attributed to the Sanskrit language, which contains a wealth of knowledge in fields like architecture, Ayurveda, astronomy, mathematics, and chemistry.
CM Fadnavis expressed his belief that the Kavikulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University will significantly contribute to society's understanding of Sanskrit.
In his speech, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the global relevance of the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which suggests that the world is one family.
“To grasp the depth of knowledge offered by Sanskrit, we must understand its significance. The treasures of knowledge within Sanskrit texts should resonate with both the populace and rulers,” he stated.
“This is a pivotal moment for constructing a self-reliant India, which hinges on our cultural essence. True strength arises when the mind, heart, and intellect are rooted in self-respect,” he remarked.
“Where there is sattva and strength, there is energy. This energy fosters prosperity, a necessity in today’s environment. Everyone's contribution is essential. The Sanskrit language serves as the foundation for understanding this essence,” he concluded.
