Mumbai, June 14 (NationPress) The pace at which complaints are being resolved, particularly for home buyers, has significantly improved since Manoj Saunik assumed the role of chairman of the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA).
Since taking office in October 2024 during the MahaYuti administration, Saunik has resolved 1,655 complaints—including 852 new complaints and some that were pending. This rapid resolution has provided essential relief to home buyers.
Since its inception in 2017, MahaRERA has registered 50,223 housing projects. Complaints have been lodged by home buyers for 5,508 projects, accounting for 10.96 percent of total projects registered.
As of June 2025, a total of 10,610 complaints have been received by the chairpersons since July 2017, with 7,732 complaints being resolved under Saunik's leadership.
To safeguard home buyers from builder fraud, MahaRERA is obliged to address complaints promptly and render decisions.
Reportedly, a backlog of complaints had accumulated since May 2020. Upon Saunik's appointment, hearings accelerated, with 175 to 200 cases being addressed daily, allowing all previously unresolved complaints to be heard.
Moreover, the introduction of the Pronouncement of Order system ensures that home buyers receive immediate updates regarding decisions.
Initially, a new website was planned for MahaRERA, leading to complications for builders in registering projects, effectively halting operations. However, Saunik reverted to the old website, which has since expedited project registrations.
According to MahaRERA, “Any aggrieved person may file a complaint with the Authority or the adjudicating officer regarding any registered real estate project for any violation of the Act or its regulations. Appeals can be made to the Appellate Tribunal or the High Court based on the decisions rendered.”
