Kolkata, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has leveled serious allegations against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for misleading the West Bengal Civil Service (WBCS) officials. He claims that she has failed to act against four election officers in the state, whose suspension has been recommended by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

These four officers have allegedly been found guilty of manipulating the electoral rolls in two Assembly constituencies across two districts.

On Thursday, LoP Adhikari urged WBCS officials to disregard the Chief Minister's influence and to execute their responsibilities according to the Constitution.

He accused political consultants from I-PAC, associated with the Trinamool Congress, of infiltrating the electoral framework and engaging in various electoral malpractices.

"WBCS officials, remember, Mamata Banerjee is merely shedding crocodile tears. Her opposition to the ECI's suspension of these errant officers is not an act of protection for you, but rather an attempt to shield I-PAC and its affiliates, who have compromised the electoral management system under the guise of data entry operators. They have perfected the art of 'scientific rigging' by registering fictitious voters, erasing Hindu voters' names, and enrolling Bangladeshi Muslims as voters," Adhikari stated in his appeal.

This statement from the BJP leader follows Chief Minister Banerjee's questioning of the ECI's authority regarding the suspension of Bengal officials for alleged electoral roll discrepancies.

On Thursday, Banerjee reaffirmed her government's support for its employees and challenged the constitutional legitimacy of the ECI's actions.

Reacting to Banerjee's comments, Adhikari noted that years of neglect and pressure on WBCS officers have led to the compromise of their statutory responsibilities, which have become usurped by I-PAC and its affiliates, who are reportedly compensated from the illicit wealth amassed by the Trinamool Congress.

He further encouraged WBCS officers to fulfill their duties without intimidation.

"For the sake of our state's future and your next generation, it is crucial that you assert your legal rights to fulfill your Constitutional obligations. Mamata Banerjee has sacrificed her Ministers, MLAs, and party members who are now imprisoned; her primary concern is self-preservation along with protecting her nephew. Therefore, execute your duties fearlessly, and Goddess Kali will safeguard you from the Chief Minister's grasp," Adhikari concluded.

Point of View

It is imperative to present an unbiased perspective on the ongoing political controversy in West Bengal. The allegations raised by Suvendu Adhikari highlight the complex dynamics between state governance and electoral integrity. It is crucial for civil service officials to operate independently and uphold constitutional duties, irrespective of political pressures. The involvement of external consultancy firms in electoral processes raises significant questions regarding transparency and accountability.
