Kolkata, Dec 22 (NationPress) West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has voiced her concerns on Monday regarding the alleged significant flaws in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative conducted by the Election Commission of India in the state.
During a gathering of her party's booth-level representatives, the Trinamool Congress, held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, Banerjee accused the poll body of appointing observers without prior notification to the state government.
"The Election Commission appears to be functioning under the influence of the BJP. There are serious inaccuracies in the voter mapping process during the SIR efforts in the state, which were executed without proper planning," Banerjee stated.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the central officers assigned as micro observers for the SIR hearings lack proficiency in the local languages and are not adequately trained to carry out verifications during the ongoing second phase of the SIR initiative.
"The ECI appointed observers without state acknowledgment. These micro-observers, who arrived as supporters of the BJP from Delhi, do not comprehend Bengali, Lepcha, or Nepali—they simply came to fulfill a task. If they wish to conduct hearings, they must be equipped with appropriate hearing tools," she remarked.
Banerjee further stated, "The alterations made in the delimitation are unjust. The discrepancies in name translations between Bengali and English are unacceptable. Who granted you this authority? BLAs hold a significant duty to ensure no issues arise for citizens during the hearing process."
She asserted that the BJP aims to disenfranchise 1.5 crore voters in West Bengal, claiming, "Their intent is to dismantle democracy. I witnessed 50 motorcycles with Bihar registration numbers being delivered in Burdwan yesterday. They are attempting to import individuals for the elections. All BLAs must engage with MLAs, councillors, and block presidents concerning the SIR."
Moreover, she declared, "The BJP Government will manipulate the Election Commission to dominate Bengal and disregard its populace. There are ongoing efforts to diminish Bengal and uproot its cultural identity. These are mere strategies of the BJP administration. The assembly elections in 2026 will mark the end of the BJP in Bengal. I have no fear of the BJP government. I call upon everyone to reduce their influence to zero. If you value me, my struggles, and my sacrifices, we will succeed in this election. We shall displace the BJP government from Bengal.
