Mamata Banerjee Accuses Centre of Targeting Common Citizens Amid Cooking Gas Price Surge
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 8 (NationPress) In light of the recent surge in cooking fuel prices, West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, fiercely criticized the central government on Sunday, claiming it is making life difficult for the average citizen.
"Our commitment is to stand by the people in every aspect, while the Union government and the BJP seem focused solely on causing distress. The rise in gas prices will undoubtedly impact the daily lives of ordinary people. Today, women and girls in West Bengal will stage protests, donning black sarees as a symbol of their dissent," the Chief Minister stated.
On this International Women's Day, she remarked that for her, every day is dedicated to women.
"A thriving society must uplift its women. Hence, the West Bengal government has introduced numerous pioneering programs from the outset to empower them in all life spheres," she expressed in her social media message.
She underscored various welfare and financial assistance schemes tailored for women, which have been implemented during the 15 years of Trinamool Congress governance.
Additionally, she asserted that when it comes to women's safety, West Bengal boasts the best conditions among all Indian states.
"Even the Union government has recognized Kolkata as the safest city in India. To bolster this security, the Kolkata Police has recently inaugurated the 'Pink Booth' initiative and all-female 'SHINING' mobile services aimed at ensuring women's safety during nighttime," the Chief Minister remarked.
However, representatives from the West Bengal unit of the BJP dismissed her claims regarding women's safety, arguing that the ongoing incidents of horrific rapes and murders illustrate the dire situation in West Bengal, with many offenders linked to the Trinamool Congress.
