Kolkata, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has raised serious concerns regarding the state government's alleged attempts to maintain the names of deceased voters on the electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. He claims this is being done to potentially 'misuse' these names later.
In a post on social media, Adhikari accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of deliberately keeping the names of deceased individuals on the rolls so that their votes could be 'exploited' by her party's operatives in the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
The BJP leader shared an audio clip featuring a booth-level officer (BLO) from Falta in South 24 Parganas, who purportedly states that higher officials have instructed them to refrain from removing deceased individuals' names without an official death certificate.
However, the IANS has not independently verified the authenticity of this audio.
Adhikari stated, "With the SIR underway, Mamata Banerjee senses impending doom, which has led her to utilize her administration to ensure that deceased voters’ names remain on the rolls. She intends to deploy her peacekeeping force to manipulate these votes during elections. But this will not be an easy task."
He further emphasized, "Listen to the audio below and witness the administration's tactics. The BLO from Falta openly complains that the BDO and ARO summoned all BLOs after 3 p.m. yesterday, ordering them not to delete any deceased names without a death certificate. Yet, family members have completed the declaration for the deceased on the enumeration forms, which cannot be uploaded. The BLOs are being instructed to withhold these forms. Why? To potentially exploit them later. This is a grave allegation."
Additionally, he accused Trinamool Congress thugs of intimidating families, claiming that no death certificates will be provided to the BLOs. "The motive is clear; there is an undercover effort to keep deceased voters on the electoral list through coercion from BDOs and AROs," Adhikari stated.
He concluded by urging the public and BLOs to remain fearless and assist the Election Commission with the SIR process legally. He warned BDOs and AROs, who he considers to be under Trinamool's influence, to be cautious, or they might face consequences. The BJP is vigilantly monitoring the situation and will not remain silent.
Adhikari also called upon the Election Commission to take this serious complaint into account, conduct an investigation, and act swiftly against the BDOs and AROs involved.
