Kolkata, June 10 (NationPress) The Mamata Banerjee administration will introduce a bill aimed at revising the current West Bengal Clinical Establishments Act during the ongoing session of the state Assembly.
A high-ranking cabinet official mentioned that the need for amendments has arisen due to numerous complaints directed at the health department regarding private medical facilities, which have been accused of lacking transparency in their billing practices.
“The primary concern is that these private establishments often entice patients by advertising specific packages for certain treatments. However, patients frequently find themselves charged significantly more than the advertised rates, with the additional costs categorized as miscellaneous charges. The revised State Clinical Establishment Act will aim to rectify these discrepancies,” the cabinet member stated.
The proposed amendments will mandate that private medical facilities charge patients strictly according to the advertised package rates. “If additional charges become necessary, the management of the respective private establishments must inform family members beforehand and obtain consent before adding any extra costs,” the Minister explained.
