Bhopal, Jan 15 (NationPress) A Special NDPS court in Madhya Pradesh has sentenced an inter-state drug trafficker to five years of rigorous imprisonment, accompanied by a fine of Rs 50,000, as stated by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The court in Dewas found Vivek Kumar Singh, a resident of Pune, guilty under Sections 8(C) and 20 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The incident traces back to March 31, 2024, when NCB officers from the Indore Zone intercepted a bus traveling from Bhopal to Pune at the Dewas Toll Plaza, Bypass Road. During their inspection, Singh, son of Jamuna Prasad, was apprehended with 675 grams of charas. A case was subsequently filed under CR No. 05/2024, as reported by the NCB.
Investigations revealed that the seized charas was sourced from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, and was intended for Pune. A formal complaint regarding this was lodged with the Special NDPS Court in Dewas on May 14, 2024.
On Thursday, the court convicted Singh and sentenced him to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 8(C) and 20 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
In a separate case, the Narcotics Control Bureau's Bhopal Zonal Unit obtained a 15-year jail term along with a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh from the special NDPS court in Raisen for two individuals involved in inter-state drug trafficking.
Zakir, son of Shabir Shah, and Liyakat Ali, son of Sharafat Ali, both residents of Bhopal, were arrested on December 29, 2022, while transporting 109.150 kg of ganja in a vehicle, according to the ED. Subsequent investigations indicated that the ganja was sourced from Sonepur, Odisha, intended for Bhopal.
