Imphal, July 21 (NationPress) In a significant operation, three militants, including a self-proclaimed Major associated with a banned group, along with three illegal ammunition dealers, were apprehended in Manipur over the last 24 hours, as per officials on Monday.
A police spokesperson revealed that the self-styled Major of the banned outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Konjengbam Tomba Singh alias Laingam (38), was captured at his home in the Imphal East district.
This militant leader underwent his basic military training in Tanal, Myanmar and played a key role in enlisting youths into the outlawed organization.
Two active members of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were also detained by the Manipur Police from the Kakching Super Market area in the hilly Kakching district.
The UPPK militants were named Nongmaithem Subhachandra Singh alias Kakching Ngakpa (44) and Elangbam Abinash Singh alias Ngamba (22), both engaged in extortion schemes in Kakching and surrounding regions.
Additionally, security forces arrested three individuals involved in the unlawful sale of ammunition in the Thangmeiband Khuyathong Polem Leikai area of Imphal West district.
Authorities recovered a total of 70 rounds of INSAS ammunition, one AK rifle magazine containing 26 rounds of ammunition, two empty magazines from INSAS Light Machine Guns, one empty magazine of INSAS rifle, one empty magazine of 7.62mm SLR, 67 rounds of .303 rifle ammunition, 100 rounds of .38mm ammunition, and three rounds of 7.62mm SLR ammunition from their possession.
In a separate incident, during random checks along the Barak River in Jiribam district, security forces seized 10.096 kg of brown sugar and 5.280 kg of narcotics from a peddler named Mihir Roy (26), residing in Rangirkhari, southern Assam's Cachar district.
Another enforcement action led to the interception of a Maruti car in Imphal West district, which contained 105.4 grams of heroin. The driver, Md. Azad Yumkhaibam (32), was arrested.
