Chaibasa, March 5 (NationPress) - Three members of the security forces, including an Assistant Commandant from the CRPF’s CoBRA battalion, sustained injuries from an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion orchestrated by Maoists in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa district, as reported by officials on Thursday.

The injured personnel were promptly airlifted to Ranchi for medical attention.

The blast transpired on Wednesday in Baliba, under the jurisdiction of the Jaraikella police station, during a coordinated search operation involving security forces and local police in the dense forest and hilly region.

According to Chaibasa's Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashutosh Shekhar, this incident occurred amidst ongoing anti-Maoist operations.

The injured CRPF Assistant Commandant and his two comrades were rapidly evacuated to a nearby helipad and subsequently transported to Ranchi via helicopter.

This event coincides with the visit of the CRPF DGP to Jharkhand.

In recent days, security forces have successfully confiscated a substantial cache of weaponry by dismantling three Maoist hideouts in Chaibasa.

On March 4, a Maoist encampment located in Husipi forest, part of the Tonto police station area, was destroyed. Security forces managed to defuse two 10 kg IEDs and seized a homemade pistol, two carbines, a rifle, an additional 10 kg IED, 58 detonators, and other equipment.

Earlier, on February 24, two Maoist camps in the Tonto police station area were eliminated. Among the firearms recovered were 10 weapons, including a US-manufactured M-16 rifle, along with over 500 rounds of ammunition.

Intelligence sources indicate that senior CPI-Maoist figures, including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin, are active in the Saranda and Kolhan regions with their units. Security forces are intensifying their efforts against them.

Previously, Union Home Minister Amit Shah remarked that the anti-Maoist initiatives across the nation are nearing completion, projecting that Maoism will be completely eradicated by the end of March 2026.
