Raipur, April 16 (NationPress) The Chhattisgarh Police executed a significant operation targeting insurgents in the forests of Burgum, leading to the neutralization of two feared Maoists, including a senior commander.
This operation, jointly conducted by the Kondagaon District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters, is regarded as a substantial achievement in the ongoing battle against Maoist insurgency.
Inspector General P. Sundarraj of Bastar Division confirmed the operation's success and noted that both individuals have been identified.
Following intelligence reports regarding Maoists in the Kilam-Burgum forest area near the borders of Kondagaon and Narayanpur districts, the operation began on Tuesday (April 15). A fierce gunfight ensued, with a continuous exchange of fire between the security forces and the Maoists. The operation extended overnight, with security forces maintaining their positions within the dense forest. By Wednesday morning, a search of the area resulted in the discovery of the bodies of two Maoists.
One of the deceased was Haldar, identified as a DVCM (Divisional Committee Member), carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh. The other, Rame, an ACM (Area Committee Member), had a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head.
Both were affiliated with the East Bastar Division, notorious for its activities.
In addition to the successful neutralization of these insurgents, the police recovered an AK-47 rifle, explosives, ammunition, and other materials related to Maoist operations from the encounter site.
This operation represents a significant setback for Maoist activities in the region, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-led actions.
Search operations in the area are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as new details surface.
The police continue to be vigilant in their commitment to restoring peace and security in the region. Meanwhile, several Maoists are surrendering to security forces to reintegrate into mainstream society.
On March 29, as many as 15 Maoists surrendered to security forces in the Maoist-affected district of Dantewada, pledging to join the mainstream. This development is part of a widely publicized campaign in villages led by the District Police Force and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). The ongoing campaign, “Lon Varratu,” has successfully encouraged numerous Maoists, including top leaders, to surrender and reintegrate into society.
