Raipur, July 27 (NationPress) In a remarkable counter-insurgency operation, four Maoists carrying rewards were eliminated during an extended confrontation with security forces within the thick forests of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, according to police reports on Sunday.
The operation, initiated by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) on July 26, was conducted based on precise intelligence regarding Maoist activities near the Basaguda and Gangaloor police station jurisdictions in the district’s south-western area.
The skirmish commenced in the evening and persisted intermittently through the night. Among those deceased were two female operatives, all connected with the South Sub Zonal Bureau of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), as confirmed by officials.
The fallen insurgents were recognized as Hunga (ACM, Platoon 10), Lakkhe (ACM, Platoon 30), Bhime (ACM), and Nihal alias Rahul, a party member and bodyguard to the Bureau Communication Head.
Collectively, they had a bounty totaling Rs 17 lakh.
Security forces seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the location, including one SLR rifle, one INSAS rifle, one .303 rifle, a 12 bore gun, a BGL launcher, a single-shot 315 bore rifle, and an AK-47.
Additionally, numerous magazines, live rounds, grenades, BGL cells, Maoist literature, and everyday items were confiscated.
Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P. validated that this operation is part of a strengthened anti-LWE campaign in the area.
He highlighted that 425 hardcore Maoists have been neutralized from January 2024 to July 2025, attributing this achievement to meticulous planning, operational bravery, and community assistance.
In spite of the challenging monsoon conditions—characterized by treacherous terrain, dense vegetation, and relentless rainfall—security forces upheld strong morale and operational preparedness.
This encounter highlights the state’s ongoing commitment to dismantling Maoist strongholds and reinstating civil order in areas plagued by insurgency.
The operation continues, with forces on heightened alert throughout the Bastar division, a region historically known for left-wing extremism.
