Imphal, July 10 (NationPress) — In a significant operation, security forces in Manipur have confiscated drugs valued at Rs 18 crore, apprehended a militant, and recovered various arms and ammunition over the last 24 hours, according to official reports released on Thursday.
A police spokesperson stated that a collaborative effort by Manipur Police and CRPF led to the interception of a vehicle at Tupul bridge, which was traveling from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi. The operation resulted in the seizure of 196 soap cases filled with what is suspected to be heroin/brown sugar, totaling 2.193 kg, with an estimated value of Rs 18 crore.
Two individuals identified as Ginminlen Haokip (24) and Holminlen Khongsal (30), were arrested during this operation. Haokip resides in Kangpokpi district, while Khongsal is from Chandel district, which shares an unfenced border with Myanmar.
The police further apprehended two individuals at the Mao police check post in Senapati district, recovering 18 plastic packets containing dry Ganja, weighing approximately 22 kg, valued at around Rs 2.18 lakh. The arrested were identified as Ajmir Sarif (19) and Iliyas Ali Shah, both hailing from Thoubal district.
Additionally, a member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-People’s War Group) was detained in the Lamphel Super Market area of Imphal West. The militant, Shyamchand Singh (38), was reportedly engaged in extortion in the Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
In a separate incident, police executed a raid at the home of a known vehicle thief, Mohammad Hefajuddin Boboy (27), in Imphal West. Upon the arrival of police, Hefajuddin fled, but officers recovered a stolen Honda Activa 6G two-wheeler from his residence, which had been reported missing from Thongju area on July 5.
The rightful owner has been notified, and the process for returning the vehicle is underway. Police are actively searching for Hefajuddin.
Moreover, security forces retrieved various arms and ammunition from Bishnupur and Kangpokpi Districts, including one AK 56 rifle, one .303 rifle, one 303 Light Machine Gun, and other firearms.
