The personnel of Assam Rifles also apprehended two drug dealers, including a woman, and confiscated Rs 3.37 lakh, along with four smart mobile phones containing Indian and Myanmar SIM cards.

A spokesman for the Defence stated that following confidential information, the paramilitary forces conducted a search operation and on Thursday night discovered the drugs, smuggled from Myanmar, in Mata Village, located five kilometers south of the Churachandpur district headquarters, which is 64 kilometers from the state capital Imphal.

Assam Rifles set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Mata Village and stopped a vehicle (Fortuner). Upon inspection, two individuals admitted to carrying illegal substances, which included Brown Sugar and methamphetamine tablets (commonly referred to as Yaba tablets).

The arrested drug traffickers were identified as Chingsen (36) and L Pausuanlal Simte (38), both residents of Bible Hill Renkai in Churachandpur District.

The spokesman indicated that the Brown Sugar, worth around Rs 12 crores, was contained in 208 soap cases, while two lakhs highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, valued at Rs 50 crores, were in other packets.

A total of Rs 3.37 lakh in cash, four smart mobile phones with six Indian SIM cards, one Myanmar SIM card (MPT), and a Fortuner car were confiscated from the drug peddlers. The seized items and the detained individuals have been transferred to Churachandpur Police Station for further inquiry.

This significant seizure underscores the unwavering commitment of Assam Rifles in fighting the illegal drug trade and ensuring safety in the region, according to the spokesman.

Expressing appreciation for the security forces' efforts in the drug seizure, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated on X, “Well done state security forces. No compromise on the war on drugs.”

Manipur has a 398 km unfenced border with Myanmar, leading to frequent infiltration and drug smuggling activities across the border.
