Kolkata, Oct 21 (NationPress) A significant fire ignited at a dye factory in Khardah, located in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, during the early hours of Tuesday. The blaze escalated quickly due to the presence of chemicals stored within the premises, leading to a series of explosions that resonated from the site.
The fire also spread to an adjacent T-shirt manufacturing facility. Approximately 20 fire engines are currently on-site, working diligently to control the inferno.
Reports indicate that firefighters have yet to identify the source of the fire. It remains uncertain whether any workers are trapped inside the factory.
The origin of the fire is still under investigation. Further updates are expected.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. The entire Ishwaripur area in Khardah was enveloped in thick black smoke, with flames billowing from the dye factory. The police and fire brigade were promptly alerted. Recognizing the severity of the situation, around 20 fire engines rushed to the scene.
"Given that this is a dye factory, there are numerous chemicals present. Consequently, the fire spread rapidly, and the nearby T-shirt factory also caught fire. We heard explosions from inside the factory. A large contingent of police officers is on-site," reported a senior officer from Khardah police.
The Barrackpore Commissioner of Police, Murli Dhar, has already arrived at the location.
A fire brigade official stated, "The fire originated from within the dye factory. While we expect to manage the fire at the T-shirt factory shortly, it will require more time to control the flames in the dye factory. We are still unaware if anyone was inside the building at the time of the incident."
Residents in the vicinity are in a state of panic due to the colossal fire. However, until the blaze is extinguished, officials cannot determine the cause of the fire.
