Chennai, June 17 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party's Tamil Nadu unit is gearing up for a significant display of spiritual unity, as state president Nainar Nagendran revealed that the forthcoming Murugan Conference in Madurai is projected to attract more than 500,000 devotees. The gathering, slated for June 22, will take place close to the historic city renowned for its profound cultural and religious importance among Lord Murugan followers.
While speaking to the media at the party's state headquarters, Kamalalayam in Chennai, Nagendran remarked that despite the DMK government's “attempts to impose unnecessary restrictions,” the spiritual enthusiasm among devotees remains steadfast.
“Many Murugan bhakts are expected to gather in Madurai, reinforcing Tamil Nadu's deep-seated spiritual traditions,” he asserted.
The conference will feature prominent political figures, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, both of whom have confirmed their attendance.
Moreover, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary K. Palaniswami has also received a formal invitation as a guest, exemplifying the broader unity among alliance partners on spiritual grounds.
Nagendran emphasized that this event is not politically motivated. “This is a spiritual gathering, a celebration of faith in Lord Murugan. It should not be interpreted through a political perspective,” he highlighted.
However, he noted, “Any political movement that aligns itself with the spiritual aspirations of the populace will naturally resonate and succeed.”
The Murugan Bhakts’ Conference, initiated by the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit, aims to unite followers of Lord Murugan—widely revered throughout Tamil Nadu, especially in hill temples such as Palani, Thiruchendur, Swamimalai, and Pazhamudircholai. The deity is viewed as the Tamil god of war and wisdom, and Murugan devotion is a central aspect of Tamil Saivite tradition.
The event will also showcase cultural programs, devotional singing, and the screening of a specially produced theme video and song, which were unveiled earlier by senior BJP leaders, including former Governor and party figure Tamilisai Soundararajan.
Organizers are making arrangements to accommodate the anticipated influx of devotees from across the state and neighboring regions, with the conference projected to be a significant spiritual milestone in Tamil Nadu's devotional calendar.
