Chennai, June 21 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, alleged on Saturday that the ruling DMK is engaging in diversionary tactics, such as opposing the NEET exam and the proposed delimitation process, to conceal its escalating dread of electoral defeat.
Speaking to journalists during the International Yoga Day celebrations at the National Institute of Siddha in Tambaram, Murugan noted that the DMK is evidently losing public support and confidence.
“The citizens of Tamil Nadu and the rest of India have witnessed the level of development achieved over the last decade under the BJP-led administration. The DMK’s campaigns against NEET and delimitation are frantic attempts to divert voters from its own shortcomings,” he stated.
Murugan further asserted that the DMK’s critique of national policies stems from a place of political insecurity.
“These protests are not in the public interest but rather driven by the DMK’s anxiety over losing relevance. The public has already made their decision,” he emphasized.
In response to a query regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement that English-speaking Indians would “soon feel ashamed”, Murugan provided clarification.
“Amit Shah was highlighting the necessity to move away from a colonial mentality. Since 2014, our government has consistently promoted Indian culture, languages, and traditions. The National Education Policy supports learning Indian languages alongside one’s mother tongue, reaffirming our dedication to cultural pride,” he explained.
On cultural developments, the Minister announced that lakhs of Lord Muruga devotees from around the world are expected to gather in Madurai on June 22 for the Muruga Bhaktargalin Aanmeega Maanadu (Spiritual Conference of Murugan Devotees).
“This spiritual assembly will celebrate our divine heritage and unite followers of Lord Muruga globally,” Murugan stated, describing the event as a manifestation of Tamil cultural unity.
