Is Hindi Imposition and NEET a Threat, as Stalin Warns?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 7 (NationPress) The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) convened its South Zone Youth Wing Conference in the Virudhunagar district on Saturday, witnessing significant turnout from party members and youth volunteers throughout southern Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin, alongside Deputy Chief Minister and Youth Wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin, participated in the event, addressing the assembly and elaborating on the party's ideological stance regarding language, social justice, and education.
During his speech, Chief Minister Stalin emphasized the party's enduring dedication to preserving Tamil identity and opposing any efforts to impose Hindi through national directives.
He noted that the Tamil language has encountered numerous challenges over the years, attributing its protection to the Dravidian movement and its persistent advocacy. “Whenever our mother tongue, Tamil, was endangered, we have fought tirelessly to defend it,” stated Stalin.
“Currently, under the pretense of the three-language policy, there are attempts to enforce Hindi. They believe that by eradicating our language, they can obliterate our identity. We will not permit that,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also condemned efforts he described as attempts to diminish social justice via centralized education policies.
Regarding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), he claimed such assessments disproportionately disadvantage students from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He remarked that historically, education and job opportunities have been denied to many segments of society.
“In the past, education was limited, and job prospects were inaccessible for numerous communities. Reservation policies have played a vital role in rectifying that inequity. However, through exams like NEET, there seems to be an effort to revive the old system and restrict access again,” he expressed.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, while addressing the youth volunteers, encouraged them to fortify the party at the grassroots level and spread the message of social justice, state rights, and linguistic pride to every household.
The conference forms part of the DMK’s broader mobilization initiatives in anticipation of the forthcoming Assembly elections, with the party organizing zonal meetings across Tamil Nadu to invigorate cadres and consolidate support.
Party leaders indicated that the youth wing would play a pivotal role in advancing the Dravidian ideology and countering policies they perceive as harmful to Tamil Nadu’s welfare.
The event concluded with resolutions reaffirming the DMK’s dedication to federalism, social equity, and the preservation of the Tamil language and culture.
