Barabanki, June 18 (NationPress) Former Uttar Pradesh Minister and President of Apni Janata Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, on Wednesday lauded Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati, declaring her the finest Chief Minister the state has witnessed to date.

Addressing a press conference at Chauhan Guest House in Barabanki during his ongoing 'Samvidhan Samman aur Janhit Hunkar Yatra', Maurya criticized the ruling BJP and took jabs at the Samajwadi Party as well. Nonetheless, he reserved high praise for Mayawati, asserting that under her governance, law and order set a precedent not only in Uttar Pradesh but nationwide.

“When comparing Chief Ministers from the BSP, BJP, and SP, Mayawati undoubtedly emerges as the standout. Her tenure was marked by a genuine rule of law, which echoed throughout India,” Maurya stated.

However, he expressed regret regarding her current political stance. “She is no longer the same Behenji. She has distanced herself from the principles of Babasaheb Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram, leading to a disconnect with the people,” he commented.

Swami Prasad Maurya, who has transitioned between major parties like the BJP, BSP, and SP, currently leads his own party, Apni Janata Party.

During the press conference, he clarified that his party is preparing for a vigorous electoral campaign.

Maurya announced that in the forthcoming district panchayat elections, party members would have autonomy in choosing candidates. He further indicated that the Apni Janata Party aims to contest all 403 seats in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

“Our goal is not merely to participate, but to free UP from the BJP's hold. We are open to alliances with any party willing to oppose the BJP,” he asserted.

Currently, Maurya is on the ‘Samvidhan Samman aur Janhit Hunkar Yatra’, a statewide initiative to promote awareness about social justice, public welfare, and constitutional rights.

“This yatra aims to reveal the anti-people, casteist, and communal policies of the BJP government and will persist until the BJP is removed from power,” Maurya mentioned.

Earlier, Maurya was warmly welcomed by his supporters upon his arrival in Barabanki. He expressed gratitude to the crowd and reaffirmed his dedication to advocating for the marginalized and oppressed.
