MDMK Affirms No Power-Sharing in Tamil Nadu, Supporting DMK Government

Chennai, Jan 1 (NationPress) In a significant announcement that alleviated concerns for Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister and his party, the DMK, the MDMK, its alliance partner, declared its opposition to power-sharing and reaffirmed its unwavering support for the government led by M.K. Stalin.

It is essential to understand that there has never been a tradition of power-sharing among the Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu since they took office.

Conversely, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a Dalit political entity and a member of the DMK-led INDIA bloc, has expressed a strong desire for power-sharing.

VCK’s former Deputy General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna had vocally supported the idea of the VCK being included in governance.

This stance faced strong opposition from VCK leader and Member of Parliament Thol Thirumavalavan.

Nonetheless, there have been reports indicating Thirumavalavan's interest in participating in the Tamil Nadu government.

While addressing the press, MDMK leader Vaiko made his party's position clear, stating, “We are not agreeing to sharing power and governance.”

In response to Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai's commitment to abstain from wearing shoes until the DMK is removed from power, Vaiko asserted, “As long as I live, I will not allow anyone to dismantle the DMK government.”

He further remarked, “Moreover, the populace backs this government and the welfare initiatives undertaken by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

On a separate note, Vaiko condemned the recent sexual assault case at Anna University, demanding the harshest punishment for the perpetrators.

Vaiko highlighted the MDMK’s contributions, listing successful protests led by his party, including halting the neutrino project, ensuring the closure of Sterlite, and protecting the Mullaperiyar Dam.

He expressed disappointment that the general public remains unaware of these achievements due to the party’s limited media outreach.

“We are not pursuing these actions for electoral gains,” he emphasized.

In a robust critique of the BJP-led central government, Vaiko accused it of attempting to erode secularism and federalism.

Vaiko stated, “The BJP has renamed Allahabad as Prayagraj. A conference convened by Hindutva factions in 2022 suggested relocating the national Capital to Varanasi and eliminating all official languages apart from Hindi and Sanskrit. They even proposed stripping minorities of their voting rights.”

He commended Stalin and the DMK government for their welfare programs that benefit students, women, and various societal groups.

“Chief Ministers from other states aspire to replicate the initiatives introduced by the DMK government in their own regions,” he concluded.
