Kochi, Oct 24 (NationPress) The fourth edition of the International Symposium on Marine Ecosystem (MECOS-4), taking place from November 4-6 in Kochi, will host a specialized industry meet focused on tackling critical challenges in seafood production and related sectors.

Jointly organized by the Marine Biological Association of India (MBAI) and the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), MECOS-4 aims to create a forum for discussing both challenges and emerging opportunities within India's marine fisheries sector.

The industry meet, a significant segment of the symposium, will gather prominent stakeholders from the seafood trade, aquaculture, hatcheries, feed industries, ornamental fish trade, marine eco-tourism, and environmental education.

The session, set for 10 am on November 5, will emphasize experience sharing, pinpointing operational gaps, and devising a roadmap for sustainable growth across the sector.

CMFRI Director Grinson George pointed out that the session's goal is to enhance collaboration among farmers, exporters, and input suppliers, effectively bridging the gap between production and market needs.

“As global seafood markets grow increasingly competitive and sustainability standards tighten, these discussions are expected to fortify India’s export resilience, elevate aquaculture output, encourage technological adoption, and advocate for climate-smart practices,” he remarked.

Key topics will include addressing the impact of U.S. tariffs on seafood exports and the lack of comprehensive policies regarding mariculture.

Participants are anticipated to include representatives from major export houses, the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), aquaculture feed and fish meal industries, pet feed manufacturers, marine sports and eco-tourism operators, as well as governmental organizations.

MECOS-4 will also feature an exhibition highlighting state-of-the-art technologies in farming, hatchery production, feed management, value addition, and processing equipment.

This exhibition aims to equip stakeholders across the value chain with essential insights and practical solutions to boost efficiency and competitiveness.

By intertwining scientific insights with industry perspectives, MECOS-4 is set to enhance India’s marine ecosystem knowledge base while fostering the sustainable development of the country's seafood sector.
