Shillong, April 4 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, officially launched the Disaster and Relief Monitoring System (DRMS) on Friday. This digital platform is designed to enhance the efficiency of disaster reporting, relief processing, and fund disbursement in the state.

The launch took place in the Cabinet Room, attended by senior government officials, Deputy Commissioners, and key departmental representatives.

During his address, Sangma emphasized the urgency for a swift, transparent, and accountable relief system for communities affected by disasters.

“In crisis situations, every second counts. The DRMS will guarantee that assistance reaches impacted communities promptly, without bureaucratic delays. This initiative represents a significant advancement towards a completely digital and paperless disaster response framework for Meghalaya,” he remarked.

The new system, crafted by the Revenue & Disaster Management Department in collaboration with NIC Meghalaya, will serve as the essential platform for processing all relief-related requests under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

The DRMS platform brings forth a variety of technological improvements to enhance the disaster response mechanism in Meghalaya, including a real-time disaster reporting system that allows for immediate logging of disaster incidents across districts and blocks, thus enhancing response times.

Another notable feature is the automated workflow, which promotes seamless coordination among Block Development Officers (BDOs), District Administrations, and the Revenue & Disaster Management Department, facilitating quicker approvals.

The system will also integrate with the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) to ensure direct and secure transfer of relief funds to beneficiaries, along with extensive monitoring and data analytics capabilities that can produce real-time reports and analytics for improved disaster response planning and policy-making. With its official launch, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to using technology for more rapid, equitable, and efficient disaster relief.

“The DRMS will encompass all forms of natural disasters, such as floods, landslides, cyclones, and earthquakes. To guarantee smooth implementation, district administrations and all relevant departments will receive training on effectively utilizing the system,” he added.
