Kolkata, Sep 22 (NationPress) With the approach of Durga Puja, the chance of rain during the festival is rising steadily, according to a warning issued by the Met Office on Monday.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata's Alipore has indicated that a low-pressure area may develop in the Bay of Bengal just two days prior to Durga Puja (September 25). This could lead to a significant likelihood of rain starting from September 27 during the festival days.
On Monday, the Met Office also mentioned the possibility of turbulent seas from Wednesday and has issued a caution for fishermen, advising against venturing into the deeper waters.
The Met Department forecasts that four districts in south Bengal are likely to experience heavy rainfall over the coming days. The districts of South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Jhargram are expected to see heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, other districts in south Bengal, including Kolkata, will witness scattered rainfall from Monday through Thursday, with thunderstorms possible in areas like Kolkata.
"As the festival draws near, the chances of rain seem to increase. In the meantime, light to moderate scattered rains will persist across all districts of south Bengal leading up to the festival," stated a Met Department official.
In contrast, rainfall intensity is anticipated to decrease in north Bengal starting Tuesday, with only light scattered showers expected in one or two locations. There are no heavy rain warnings for any of the eight districts in north Bengal, and weather conditions are predicted to gradually improve later this week.
Furthermore, stormy conditions may arise in the north Bay of Bengal off the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha beginning Thursday.
The minimum temperature recorded in Kolkata on Monday was 27.1 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature in the city on Sunday reached 33.2 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees above the usual.
