Shillong, May 26 (NationPress) The Meghalaya Police are intensifying their search efforts for a tourist couple from Indore, who have been declared missing for over 24 hours while exploring the scenic Sohra (Cherrapunji), a well-known tourist destination in the northeastern part of India, officials reported.
A senior police representative stated that 29-year-old Raja Raghuvanshi and his spouse Sonam Raghuvanshi, residents of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, went missing from Sohra (Cherrapunji) on Sunday in the East Khasi Hills district. The couple had rented a two-wheeler to explore the beautiful Sohra area before their disappearance, the official mentioned.
Their rented two-wheeler was discovered abandoned near Sohra Rim, situated 15 km from Sohra town. Moreover, the couple’s mobile phones have been turned off since Sunday night.
“We are actively pursuing a thorough search to find the missing couple,” the police representative stated. He mentioned that after receiving a missing report from Govind Raghuvanshi, Raja's brother, along with various other sources, the police initiated a comprehensive search operation. The authorities are working diligently to trace the missing couple and understand the circumstances surrounding their disappearance, he added. Govind Raghuvanshi has made a public request for anyone with information about the couple’s whereabouts to come forward.
In a related incident, the police previously discovered the decomposed body of a Hungarian tourist, Zsolt Puskas, who had been missing since March 29. The body was found in a forested area in Ramdait village, located in the East Khasi Hills district.
The Hungarian Embassy in New Delhi had filed a missing complaint on March 29, and an FIR was lodged four days later, prompting a large-scale search operation conducted by police in collaboration with local villagers and community organizations. Authorities and locals suspect that he may have fallen from a hillside, which could have resulted in his death, as the body was located on a steep slope on April 10.
