Aizawl, Sep 1 (NationPress) The government of Mizoram has initiated a four-month-long special campaign aimed at combating the illegal trade of drugs and their associated challenges, as stated by officials.
A range of drugs, particularly highly addictive methamphetamine tablets and heroin, along with various contraband items, including exotic animals, are frequently trafficked across six districts in Mizoram—Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip—which share a 510 km unfenced border with Myanmar.
These narcotics are transported from Mizoram to other regions within India and internationally, including Bangladesh, via Assam and Tripura.
On Monday, Mizoram's Home Minister K. Sapdanga launched the campaign and an intensified operation aimed at halting the illegal drug trade.
Mizoram's Inspector General of Police (IGP), H. Ramthlengliana, mentioned that this operation would be ongoing until December 31.
According to the IGP, law enforcement agencies, along with the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and local village leaders, will conduct the campaign across all drug-affected areas, villages, and border regions throughout Mizoram’s 11 districts.
