Patna, May 6 (NationPress) As part of a nationwide preparedness initiative, the Central Government is set to execute a significant mock drill in 244 districts across the nation on May 7, concentrating on public reaction to emergency situations such as air raids. In Bihar, this drill will take place in five major cities: Patna, Barauni, Katihar, Purnea, and Begusarai.
The district administration in Patna has commenced arrangements for the exercise, which will include a citywide blackout for 10 minutes, from 7:00 pm to 7:10 pm on Wednesday.
A siren will ring out at 6:58 pm, marking the start of the drill, and again at 7:10 pm to signal its conclusion.
“During this time, all lights in residences, offices, and public areas will be extinguished. Vehicles on the road are required to halt and turn off their headlights. Only ambulances will be permitted to operate; if an emergency arises, headlights may be turned on, but windows must be covered with thick cloth,” stated Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, the District Magistrate of Patna.
Sirens will be installed and activated at 80 key locations throughout Patna, including Gandhi Maidan, Patna University, PMCH, and other high-traffic areas.
The drill will also engage the fire brigade, ambulances, and civil defence teams to simulate emergency rescue and evacuation operations.
The Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) and the Civil Defence Directorate are collaborating for this drill. Chandrashekhar Singh is scheduled for a final preparatory meeting on Tuesday evening to ensure effective execution.
The main goal is to educate and train citizens on immediate protective measures during air raid threats or wartime emergencies.
Citizens will receive guidance on how to respond to sirens, find safe shelters, and assist in emergency operations.
“Public cooperation is essential for the success of this drill. We encourage everyone to engage earnestly, as these drills can be life-saving in actual crisis situations,” asserted DM Chandrashekhar Singh.
