Mumbai, Oct 9 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to engage with his British counterpart, Keir Starmer, on Thursday to review the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as part of 'Vision 2035'.

Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday for a two-day trip to India following an invitation from PM Modi. This marks Starmer's inaugural official visit to India.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that during their meeting on October 9 in Mumbai, both Prime Ministers will assess the progress across various sectors of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aligned with 'Vision 2035', which outlines a focused 10-year roadmap comprising programs and initiatives in critical areas such as trade, investment, technology, defense, climate, health, education, and people-to-people relations.

“Both leaders will connect with business and industry figures regarding the opportunities arising from the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which serves as a fundamental aspect of the future economic relationship between India and the UK. They will also discuss matters of regional and global significance,” the MEA noted.

Additionally, PM Modi and Starmer will participate in the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, delivering keynote speeches and engaging with industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators during the event.

The visit aims to build upon the momentum established during PM Modi's trip to the UK on July 23-24, 2025, presenting a crucial opportunity to reinforce the shared vision of a progressive partnership between India and the UK,” as highlighted by the MEA.

Previously, PM Modi and Starmer met at the UK Prime Minister's residence in Chequers, Buckinghamshire, where they conducted one-on-one discussions and delegation-level talks.

The signing of the historic India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) elevated their strategic partnership, significantly boosting bilateral trade, investment, and job creation.

Both sides agreed to negotiate a Double Contribution Convention, effective with the CETA, aimed at facilitating professionals and the service sector, enhancing competitiveness and lowering business costs.

Recognizing the increasing collaboration in capital markets and financial services, PM Modi emphasized the potential for greater interaction between GIFT City in Gujarat, India’s first international financial services center, and the UK's dynamic financial landscape.

The leaders also welcomed the finalization of a Defence Industrial Roadmap designed to foster collaboration in the co-design, co-development, and co-production of defense products, catering to both countries' demands and the global market.

They expressed satisfaction with the ongoing engagement of their armed forces and noted the strengthening of their defense and security partnership.
