New Delhi, Sep 30 (NationPress) In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for US President Donald Trump's initiative to resolve the Gaza crisis, describing it as a potential route to long-lasting and sustainable peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. Earlier today, Trump unveiled his 20-point peace strategy during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
In a message posted on X, PM Modi stated, "We appreciate President Donald J. Trump's comprehensive plan to conclude the Gaza conflict. It creates a feasible pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the people of Palestine and Israel, as well as for the broader West Asian region."
He further emphasized, "We hope that all parties will unite to support President Trump's initiative and work collectively to end the hostilities and achieve peace."
India has consistently championed the resolution of the Israel-Gaza conflict and the promotion of peace and stability in the region.
While addressing the media alongside Netanyahu, Trump indicated that if Hamas agrees to the proposal, the hostages would be freed and the conflict would cease. "It is now time for Hamas to accept the terms of the plan we have presented today. I am hearing that Hamas is keen to finalize this," Trump remarked.
Nonetheless, he cautioned that should Hamas reject the proposal, "Israel would have my full support to eradicate the threat posed by Hamas."
Netanyahu also voiced his backing for the peace initiative, asserting that it meets Israel's "war objectives" but also threatened to "finish the job" if Hamas does not comply. "This can either be achieved easily or through a more challenging route," he stated.
Trump’s peace proposal for Gaza includes the formation of a temporary technocratic government, with Israel committing not to annex the region and ensuring that residents are not displaced. The agreement mandates an immediate cessation of hostilities upon acceptance, with all captives, both living and deceased, being returned within 72 hours.
A new international transitional entity, the "Board of Peace", will oversee the government in Gaza, chaired by Trump along with other members such as former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body will establish the framework and manage funding for Gaza's redevelopment until the Palestinian Authority completes its reform program to regain control.
Hamas members who agree to peace would receive amnesty, while others would be provided safe passage out of the area. Security in Gaza will be managed by regional and international forces, who will also assist in training the Palestinian Police, with aid being delivered at agreed levels. The US will facilitate further discussions between Israelis and Palestinians to encourage long-term coexistence.
