Bengaluru, April 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm wishes for Basava Jayanti on Wednesday, recognizing the significant contributions of Jagadguru Basaveshwara, the esteemed founding saint of the Lingayat tradition.
The state of Karnataka is observing Basava Jayanti with immense enthusiasm. This festival is celebrated by the Lingayat community to commemorate the birth anniversary of Basaveshwara, a 12th-century social reformer and the pioneer of the Lingayat tradition.
On the auspicious occasion of Basava Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi shared on X, "We take a moment to reflect on the deep wisdom of Jagadguru Basaveshwara. His vision for a just society and relentless commitment to uplift the underprivileged continue to inspire us."
This festival is predominantly celebrated in the northern part of Karnataka.
Additionally, the Prime Minister released a video on his social media, expressing, "I am grateful for the numerous opportunities to connect with Lord Basaveshwara and his teachings. In the 12th century, he profoundly contemplated the dignity of labor and the lives of workers," he stated in the video message.
Quoting Basaveshwara, he said, "Kayakave Kailasa", which translates to, "through hard work, one can earn the grace of Lord Shiva's realm, Kailash." He also emphasized that living a purposeful day is far superior to a century devoid of meaning. He illuminated the path of karma—serving and aiding others.
"In our initiatives and policies, the essence of Kayaka (hard work) and Dasoha (service) is evident. Lord Basaveshwara empowered our society with tremendous strength. His advocacy for democracy, education, and equality is deeply ingrained in the foundation of India. The spirit of selfless service and the inspiration from Lord Basaveshwara are at the heart of our nation," the Prime Minister remarked.
"The resilience of a nation is dictated by the robustness of its foundations. I extend my heartfelt wishes to all followers of Basaveshwara across India and globally," PM Modi concluded.
BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra also expressed his greetings on this momentous occasion.
"Warm regards to everyone in the state on the birth anniversary of the great humanist Jagajyoti Shri Basaveshwara. Anna Basavanna, who spearheaded a social revolution for an egalitarian society and showcased the brilliance of Vachana literature, has emerged as a universal teacher," he said.
"For generations, he has remained an eternal cultural and social icon in the hearts of Kannadigas. The legacy of Basaveshwara, who cared for all living beings, and the importance of his principle of Kayaka (hard work) continue to serve as the essence of life, illuminating human values through all ages and sections of society," Vijayendra added.
