Union Home Minister Amit Shah described 14 August 1947 as 'one of the most brutal chapters in history,' noting that millions lost their lives and tens of millions were forced to abandon their homes, property, and loved ones. In his post on X, Shah paid homage to those killed and those who resisted atrocities during the catastrophe.

Shah further said that through Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, the government aims to bring the memories of the tragedy to younger generations, so that divisive forces 'can never succeed' and the vision of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' (One India, Excellent India) remains the nation's supreme goal.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also posted on X, describing the Partition of 1947 as far more than a division of geographical boundaries. 'It was also a shattering of the dreams, relationships, and emotions of countless families,' he said, adding that the day conveys the message of placing national unity and integrity above all else.

Adityanath paid tribute to the 'innocent citizens who lost their lives in this horrific fragmentation,' saying their memories would 'forever inspire us to build a strong, united, and indivisible India.'
