Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday, 27 July reviewed the arrangements for the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 August. The greenfield airport, completed in a record 31 months, is set to mark a transformative moment for the North Andhra region's aviation and economic landscape.

Chief Minister Naidu, who personally spearheaded the drive to deliver the airport ahead of schedule, directed officials to ensure elaborate arrangements for what is being billed as a landmark event for the state. According to an official release, he described the airport as a matter of pride for North Andhra and the Telugu people.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at the airport from Delhi by special aircraft at 10:45 am IST on 1 August. He will be received by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister Naidu. At 10:58 am, the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the airport terminal building before inspecting the facility alongside the Governor, the Chief Minister, and other dignitaries.

What the Airport Means for North Andhra

The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is a world-class greenfield facility built with modern infrastructure. Naidu stated that the airport would not only improve air connectivity but also catalyse employment, tourism, and commercial activity across the region. This comes amid sustained efforts by the state government to position North Andhra as an investment and tourism corridor, anchored by globally recognised products such as Araku Coffee.

Notably, this is among the fastest completions of a greenfield international airport in India in recent years, with the 31-month timeline drawing attention from infrastructure planners and industry observers.

Inauguration Ceremony and Cultural Showcase

The Chief Minister proposed welcoming Prime Minister Modi with traditional Dhimsa — the tribal folk dance of the region — alongside a Kuchipudi performance. He also called for a Dhimsa dance presentation involving a record number of participants, with the aim of setting a Guinness World Record. More than 13,500 tribal women and students are expected to greet the Prime Minister with a grand Dhimsa performance as he proceeds to the public meeting venue in an open-top vehicle.

The public meeting is scheduled from 11:30 am to 12:55 pm, after which the Prime Minister is set to depart for Delhi at 1:10 pm.

Projects Worth ₹18,000 Crore to Be Dedicated

Beyond the airport inauguration, Prime Minister Modi will also lay foundation stones and dedicate various projects worth ₹18,000 crore belonging to the Ministries of Petroleum, Surface Transport, and other departments, according to the schedule shared by officials.

Public Outreach Under 'Wings to the Dreams of North Andhra'

Chief Minister Naidu instructed officials to launch a wide-ranging awareness campaign under the theme 'Wings to the Dreams of North Andhra', targeting women, youth, and school students through outreach programmes, quiz and elocution competitions, flash mobs, drone shows, and round-table discussions with local industrialists. Events such as 3K and 5K runs are also planned, with winners to be invited to witness the inauguration ceremony. Extensive promotion through social media platforms has also been directed.

With the inauguration now days away, all eyes are on whether the Bhogapuram airport can serve as a genuine catalyst for North Andhra's economic ambitions — and whether the infrastructure investment translates into the connectivity and jobs the region has long awaited.
