Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Monday, 8 June congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 12 years in office, describing the period as one defined by 'unwavering service, good governance and continuous welfare of the poor.' The tribute came as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies launched nationwide programmes to mark the anniversary of the Modi-led government at the Centre.

CM Patel's tribute on social media

In a post on social media platform X, Chief Minister Patel said the completion of 12 years of Modi's tenure was 'a matter of pride' for the country. He credited the Prime Minister with charting a new course for India since first assuming office in 2014, citing the guiding principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas' as central to his governance approach.

'With the mantra of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, the beloved Prime Minister has transformed the lives of crores of Indians, and his leadership is now taking the country forward towards the goal of Viksit Bharat @ 2047,' Patel wrote.

Gujarat's development under Modi's vision

Patel highlighted Gujarat as a showcase of Modi's developmental philosophy, tracing the Prime Minister's journey from a party worker to Gujarat Chief Minister and then to the country's top executive post. He pointed to the completion of the Sardar Sarovar Dam project and the progress of initiatives including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, GIFT City, the emerging semiconductor sector, and the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as tangible markers of that vision.

On the heritage front, Patel cited development works at pilgrimage centres such as Somnath and Ambaji, alongside cultural projects including the Vadnagar Museum and the Lothal Heritage Complex, as evidence of Modi's emphasis on preserving cultural identity alongside economic growth.

Central welfare schemes in focus

The Chief Minister also drew attention to flagship Central government programmes — PM Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Digital India — arguing they had 'brought significant improvements to the lives of poor and disadvantaged communities.' These schemes have been central to the BJP's political messaging around welfare delivery during the anniversary campaign.

A historic milestone approaching

The anniversary carries additional political weight: Prime Minister Modi is set to surpass Jawaharlal Nehru's record as India's longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister on 10 June. In recent days, Modi has continued his focus on Gujarat, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth more than ₹18,000 crore in the state, spanning infrastructure and public services.

The BJP has said its nationwide anniversary initiatives will centre on governance, welfare delivery, infrastructure development, and the broader goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. As the campaign rolls out across several states, the party is seeking to consolidate the narrative of a decade-plus of continuous governance ahead of the next electoral cycle.
