Jaipur, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Rajasthan BJP president and Member of Parliament Madan Rathore stated on Thursday that the "One Nation, One Ration Card" (ONORC) initiative, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has become the most efficient and inclusive food security system for the country’s disadvantaged and migrant communities.
He highlighted that this initiative has shifted rationing into a national entitlement, enabling any beneficiary to obtain subsidized food grains from any fair price shop (FPS) across the nation, irrespective of their home state.
Responding to an inquiry by MP Madan Rathore in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Bambhaniya revealed that more than 80.56 crore beneficiaries have been incorporated into the ONORC framework.
These beneficiaries access their entitled rations through biometric verification via e-Point of Sale (EPOS) devices, enhancing accountability and minimizing leakages.
Rathore pointed out that 36 states and union territories are now fully linked to the scheme, enabling over 3 crore portability transactions monthly, including both inter-state and intra-state access.
He emphasized that this scheme has been a significant advantage for the poor, laborers, migrants, and underprivileged groups, granting them access to their food entitlements wherever they seek work or livelihood.
"This is a remarkable illustration of Digital India advancing public welfare. The Modi administration has not only secured food availability — it has ensured dignity and justice for the impoverished. Migrant workers throughout the country, including those from Rajasthan, can now focus on employment without food insecurity," Rathore remarked.
He further noted that the ONORC initiative not only empowers economically disadvantaged segments but also signifies the Modi government’s dedication to national unity, social equity, and digital openness.
