New Delhi, March 22 (NationPress) The central government, guided by the insightful leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has executed significant initiatives aimed at enhancing the country's infrastructure and promoting farmers' welfare over the past decade, as indicated by recent industry statistics.

The latest data shared by Infoindata on its X social media platform reveals that the Capital Expenditure (Capex) is projected to reach Rs 65.82 lakh crore by FY26.

"Total Capex during PM Modi's tenure is estimated at 65.82 lakh crore until FY-26, marking an over 5x increase compared to the UPA era (2004-14). This substantial infrastructure development has been closely aligned with farmers' welfare, reflected in the persistent rise in Minimum Support Price (MSP) support,” Infoindata reported, citing the RBI and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.

During the UPA government (2004-2014), the Capex was Rs 12.39 lakh crore, indicating a staggering 431 percent growth over the last decade.

In addition, there has been a significant upsurge in expenditure on Minimum Support Price (MSP), demonstrating the government's dedication to farmers.

If the numbers are accurate, the MSP was Rs 7.04 lakh crore during the UPA government (2004-2014), compared to Rs 23.12 lakh crore during PM Modi's administration (2014-2024). MSP levels have exhibited a remarkable 228 percent growth throughout Modi's governance.

The government has allocated a total of Rs 43.53 lakh crore in Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) capital expenditure since 2014, which is a 3.72 times increase compared to 2004-14.

In recent years, the Centre has prioritized Capex and has significantly boosted overall consumption.

In this regard, the government has also injected more capital to fortify the Food Corporation of India (FCI), which acquires agricultural products from farmers at the MSP.

In a challenging and increasingly unpredictable global landscape, the Indian economy is set to maintain its status as the fastest-growing major economy during 2025-26, as projected by the IMF and World Bank, with estimated GDP growth rates of 6.5 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively, according to last month's RBI monthly bulletin.

The Union Budget 2025-26 also wisely balances fiscal consolidation with growth objectives by maintaining its focus on Capex while implementing measures to enhance household incomes and consumption. The effective capital expenditure/GDP ratio is expected to rise to 4.3 percent in 2025-26, up from 4.1 percent in 2024-25 (revised estimate).
