Bengaluru, March 4 (NationPress) Congress leader M. Veerappa Moily emphasized that his previous comments have been misinterpreted and clarified that he did not suggest replacing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Moily's remarks stirred controversy, particularly his statement, "No one can stop Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar from becoming the Chief Minister."

Addressing the media, Moily stated: "It is essential not to create confusion. Making remarks either supporting CM Siddaramaiah or Dy CM Shivakumar is inappropriate."

He acknowledged Shivakumar's contributions and stated he is deserving of the CM position but added, "I have not indicated any plans to replace Siddaramaiah."

Moily also expressed that changing the CM should involve discussions and consultations, affirming, "I am dedicated to the democratic process. No one in Karnataka or Delhi has my level of experience. I am not involved in the power-sharing discussions between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, nor will I comment on them," he stated.

He further mentioned that if there were to be a change in leadership, the AICC leaders must consider the opinions of Congress party workers and MLAs.

"I experienced a similar situation. In 1980, despite having the support of the MLAs, the central leadership opted for a different candidate," he recounted.

However, Moily became Chief Minister in 1992 when 90% of the MLAs supported his candidacy.

During a recent party event in Udupi, he remarked that no one could prevent Shivakumar from becoming the Chief Minister.

"I was the one who initially endorsed Shivakumar for his MLA candidacy. His evolution into a successful political figure is a source of great pride," Moily concluded.
