Morena triple murder: Man kills wife, 2 sons with axe, dies by suicide
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and two young sons with an axe before dying by suicide under a moving train in Morena district, Madhya Pradesh, police confirmed on Saturday, 27 June. The accused, identified as Balram Singh Kushwaha, is believed to have carried out the killings late on Friday night at his home in Kishanpur village under Basaiya police station limits.
What Happened
According to police, Balram allegedly attacked his wife, Ravita Kushwaha (32), while she was asleep in the courtyard, striking her repeatedly with an axe. He then allegedly turned the weapon on their two sons — Aarav (8) and Debu (5). All three died on the spot due to multiple head injuries, police said. Shortly after, Balram allegedly reached the nearby Shikarpur railway crossing and jumped in front of a passing train. Railway authorities recovered his body from the tracks and alerted local police.
How the Bodies Were Discovered
The killings went undetected through the night because the house was surrounded by a high boundary wall. On Saturday morning, neighbours grew suspicious after finding the main gate locked from the outside. Upon looking inside, they discovered the bodies and informed the police. Officers from Basaiya police station reached the scene immediately.
What Police Said
Basaiya Police Station In-charge Vivek Tomar said the crime scene was secured and evidence collected. Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijay Bhadoria confirmed that a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the site and gathered forensic samples. 'We are reconstructing the entire sequence of events. Statements of family members, neighbours and other witnesses are being recorded. The exact motive behind the crime is yet to be established,' DSP Bhadoria said.
Possible Background — Preliminary Findings Only
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the couple had reportedly been quarrelling for about a month before the incident. Police said Balram had been working as a marble polisher in Bengaluru and had returned to Kishanpur approximately a month prior. Investigators are also reportedly verifying claims that he was distressed after receiving a WhatsApp video of his wife dancing at a Bhagwat Katha programme. The couple had allegedly been living separately for some time following frequent arguments, and Ravita had returned from her parental home only three days before the incident. Police, however, stressed that these remain preliminary findings and no firm motive has been established.
Investigation Status
'We are examining every possible angle, including domestic discord and other personal issues. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem reports, forensic examination and completion of the investigation,' DSP Bhadoria said. Police said they are probing all angles before drawing any conclusions.
