Hyderabad, Oct 14 (NationPress) In a tragic turn of events, a mother reportedly took the lives of her twin children before ending her own life by jumping from a building in Hyderabad.

The heartbreaking incident took place in Padmanagar, within the jurisdiction of the Balanagar Police Station under the Cyberabad Commissionerate late on Monday night.

The individual, identified as Sai Lakshmi, is said to have strangled her two-year-old twins—a boy and a girl—before leaping from the third floor of their apartment complex.

Upon receiving alerts from local residents, law enforcement rushed to the scene and initiated an investigation. The bodies were subsequently transported to the government-run Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad.

As per police reports, Sai Lakshmi was originally from Nuzvid in the Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh. She had been reportedly suffering from depression due to her children's health issues.

Authorities speculate that ongoing disputes between her and her husband regarding the health of their children may have contributed to the incident.

Initial inquiries indicate that the twins had faced health challenges since birth. The boy struggled with speech and was receiving therapy, while the girl frequently fell ill.

The couple had been involved in frequent arguments about these issues. On the night of the incident, a heated dispute led Anil Kumar, the husband, to leave for his relatives' home in Jeedimetla.

It is believed that Sai Lakshmi used a pillow to strangle her children before jumping from the building.

Police have since taken Kumar into custody for questioning, and a case has been registered at the Balanagar Police Station.

This incident is part of a troubling trend in Hyderabad, which has seen a series of similar cases in recent months. In August, a woman drowned her two sons in a water sump before attempting suicide; fortunately, she was saved by a passerby. The children were three years old and eight months old, respectively.

Authorities noted that disputes over family planning and financial pressures were contributing factors in that case.

Earlier in April, another woman killed her two sons with an axe before jumping from the fifth floor of their apartment building in Gajularamaram. This woman had been struggling with a long-term eye condition, which she passed on to her children, and was also embroiled in constant disputes with her husband.
