Bhopal, Sep 29 (NationPress) A significant meeting, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, took place on Monday to discuss the appointments of the Chairperson and members for the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC).
In attendance were Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar, alongside other committee members, at the Chief Minister's official residence in Bhopal.
The committee aimed to finalize the names for a chairperson and two members; however, only one member's appointment was confirmed due to a lack of consensus on the remaining positions, as reported by sources to IANS.
Avdesh Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, has been approved as a member of the State Human Rights Commission. The decisions regarding the chairperson and an additional member have been postponed, according to a source.
It is worth noting that Avdesh Pratap Singh is set to retire from his position by September 30.
Congress MLA and State Assembly LoP Umang Singhar expressed concerns to the media regarding the transparency in selecting the members of the SHCR.
He stated, "The Human Rights Commission serves as the last bastion of justice outlined in our Constitution. When other institutions falter in delivering justice, the Commission becomes the final hope for the populace. Hence, my insistence is on ensuring that no unqualified individuals are appointed as members."
This development follows the recent conclusion of the tenure of Rajiv Tandon, the Acting Chairperson of the MPHRC, which ended last Friday.
There are currently over 4,500 complaints awaiting resolution before the MP Human Rights Commission.
After the term of Manohar Mamtani as Chairman of the MPHRC ended, there was no new appointment, leading to Rajiv Tandon being designated as Acting Chairman.
