Has Rajasthan MP Beniwal Urged PM Modi and EAM Jaishankar for the Repatriation of Missing Indian Citizens in Russia?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 28 (NationPress) A group of Indian citizens from Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu have reportedly been lured into joining the Russian military under false pretenses by unscrupulous travel agents promising legitimate civilian jobs.
On Wednesday, relatives of 24 stranded Indian youths currently in Russia gathered at the residence of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) President and Nagaur Lok Sabha MP Hanuman Beniwal in Delhi.
These families expressed profound distress and significant concern regarding the safety and well-being of their loved ones.
MP Beniwal noted that the families are experiencing severe emotional turmoil due to their uncertainty about the status of the youths trapped in a conflict zone.
The Nagaur MP has formally reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar, and Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.
In reference to the Ministry of External Affairs' remarks during the Winter session of Parliament, Beniwal pointed out that 211 Indian citizens are entangled in this situation.
Among these individuals, 121 have been repatriated, 63 are still serving—some of whom are reportedly unaccounted for—and 27 Indian citizens have tragically lost their lives.
Beniwal stressed that these statistics highlight the seriousness of the ongoing crisis.
He called on the Indian government to take immediate action to prioritize the safety and repatriation of the remaining citizens, provide support to their families, and ensure clear communication regarding the conditions of the missing youths.
In December of the previous year, RLP Chief Beniwal had urged the Centre to engage in diplomatic measures to facilitate the safe return of Indian students from Russia.
During the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Beniwal appealed to EAM Jaishankar, labeling the situation as a critical humanitarian issue.
He mentioned that these youths, including many from Rajasthan, had traveled to Russia on study and work visas but were allegedly misled by travel agents into military service amidst the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
According to MP Beniwal, the families of these individuals have not been able to communicate with their loved ones for the past three to four months.
