Jabalpur, Nov 19 (NationPress) An alarming event took place on Wednesday when a businessman was violently attacked and robbed by two individuals on a motorcycle in broad daylight near the bustling Mandi Gate No. 1, as reported by police.
The victim, named Vikas Sahu, was on his way to his office with Rs 19 lakh in cash that he had just withdrawn from the bank.
Authorities indicated that the masked assailants had been tailing Sahu since he left the bank. They confronted him by the mandi gate, assaulted him, and fled with the money.
This daylight robbery incited fury among local merchants, who convened at the mandi office to organize a peaceful demonstration. They demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen funds, threatening to halt business activities at Jabalpur mandi until their demands were addressed.
Traders expressed dissatisfaction regarding the insufficient police presence in the vicinity, highlighting previous grievances about security failures.
“Despite our consistent tax contributions, adequate security measures are lacking. Incidents involving intoxicated troublemakers have become commonplace, and our written complaints to the police have gone largely ignored,” lamented Deepak Dongaria, a local merchant.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ayush Gupta, along with a team from Vijay Nagar police station, arrived at the scene to calm the demonstrators.
Gupta guaranteed that several teams had been dispatched to locate the attackers.
“We are reviewing CCTV footage, and we will apprehend the culprits shortly,” he assured reporters.
