Bhopal, July 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, is set to kick off a significant state-level event commemorating International Tiger Day at the Kushabhau Thakre Convention Centre in Bhopal on July 29.
During the event, he will explore an exhibition dedicated to wildlife conservation efforts and will honor forest personnel for their exemplary contributions to the field.
On this occasion, Yadav will also unveil vehicles designed for wildlife translocation, rescue operations, and dog squads.
As per the 2022 tiger census, India is home to approximately 3,682 tigers, with Madhya Pradesh housing 785 of them, making it the state with the highest tiger population in the country and earning the title of 'Tiger State'. Furthermore, Madhya Pradesh has excelled in the management of national parks and protected areas.
Notably, the Satpura Tiger Reserve is on UNESCO's tentative list of World Heritage Sites.
According to the central government's report evaluating tiger reserve management, Pench Tiger Reserve ranks the highest nationwide.
The Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Sanjay, and Satpura Reserves have also been recognized as top-tier managed reserves, celebrated for their innovative conservation strategies.
The Forest Department noted, "The state’s tiger corridors are efficiently connected to both northern and southern Indian tiger reserves. The national parks have been pivotal in tiger conservation, effectively managing and relocating villages from forest areas, thus alleviating biological pressures on these regions."
With its rich wildlife, Madhya Pradesh is a burgeoning hub for wildlife tourism, attracting an increasing number of both domestic and international visitors to its tiger reserves.
A report from the Wildlife Institute of India states that the Kanha Tiger Reserve is recognized as the premier tiger habitat in the nation.
This reserve boasts the highest herbivore population in India, including chital, sambar, gaur, wild boar, barking deer, nilgai, and hog deer, providing ample food resources for tigers.
