What Actions Are Being Taken Regarding the MP Police Constable Recruitment Fraud?

Bhopal, June 7 (NationPress) Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against 22 individuals accused of fraud in the Madhya Pradesh police constable recruitment initiative, resulting in 21 cases being filed. A significant breach in the recruitment protocol has been identified, prompting these legal measures.

All implicated candidates reportedly submitted forged certificates. Inspector General of Police, Law and Order, Anshuman Singh, addressed the media at the Police Headquarters in Bhopal, detailing the extent of the fraudulent activities.

“This action follows directives from Chief Minister Mohan Yadav,” the police official stated.

The recruitment, organized by the Madhya Pradesh Staff Selection Commission in 2023, aimed to fill positions in the Police Reserve GD and Radio divisions.

A remarkable 6,52,057 candidates participated in the written examination, with 55,220 progressing to the physical fitness assessments held from October 16 to November 20.

In the end, 6,423 candidates were successful, including 5,090 men and 1,333 women, as reported by the senior police officer.

Questions were raised during the second phase of selections in November 2024 when five candidates attempted to impersonate others at the Morena examination center, leading to immediate intervention and subsequent legal action.

Following this incident, directives were issued from the Police Headquarters in Bhopal on April 21, 2025, mandating a comprehensive re-verification of all successful candidates.

This verification included biometric and Aadhaar history checks from designated units before making final appointments.

Investigations uncovered alarming trends across various districts, where candidates altered Aadhaar biometric data before and after the written tests.

Forensic examination of signatures, handwriting, and fingerprints highlighted discrepancies, prompting authorities to file cases in numerous locations.

So far, seven cases have been registered in Morena, six in Shivpuri, two in Sheopur, and one each in Indore, Datia, Gwalior, Alirajpur, Rajgarh, and Shahdol, as stated by the officer.

Further investigations revealed that Aadhaar card vendors were complicit, manipulating records for financial gain and facilitating fraudulent changes without adequate checks.

This manipulation allowed candidates to evade security protocols and attempt to gain positions unlawfully.

Under the guidance of the Director General of Police, Madhya Pradesh, the Selection Branch and other investigative units continue to scrutinize the situation closely, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining integrity in the recruitment process.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered a thorough investigation into the Madhya Pradesh Police constable recruitment examination.

“Upon receiving reports of fraud and irregularities in the Police Constable Recruitment exam -2023, I have mandated strict action. Such criminal activities, which unjustly affect eligible candidates, will not be tolerated in Madhya Pradesh,” stated the Chief Minister in a press release.

CM Yadav indicated that investigations are already underway, including biometric data and Aadhaar history of all candidates.

“If any prima facie impersonation is discovered, stringent actions will be enforced against the involved parties,” Yadav added.

The Chief Minister's comments followed a day after Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari raised concerns regarding transparency in the recruitment processes within the state government and called for an independent inquiry.

Multiple FIRs have been filed following the emergence of the alleged scam, where candidates reportedly manipulated Aadhaar-based biometrics to enable proxies to take the exam for them.

In the lead-up to the written examination, various candidates altered their Aadhaar photographs and fingerprints, as uncovered during initial investigations.

The exam was conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC). A total of 9,67,118 applications were submitted for 7,411 posts. Out of these, 6,52,057 candidates took the written exam from August 12 to September 12 in 2023, with results announced on March 7, 2024, where approximately 58,000 candidates qualified for the subsequent stage. Physical tests were held between November 18 and November 20, leading to the selection of 7,411 candidates.

According to police, irregularities were first noted in October of the previous year during physical tests in Morena district when a police officer observed that some candidates' biometric data and photographs had been changed multiple times.

As the scam gained attention, the opposition Congress party heavily criticized the BJP government for failing to safeguard the future of the youth in the state.

“Fake candidates were allowed to participate in the constable recruitment exam through solver gangs. So far, 16 FIRs have been filed, but no substantial action has been taken. A similar pattern has been observed in the Patwari recruitment, primary teacher recruitment, and various other examinations,” MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari remarked.
