A 17-year-old girl is battling for her life at a trauma centre in Gwalior after she was allegedly attacked with an axe and thrown off the roof of her own home in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday, 13 June 2025, by a youth who had reportedly been stalking and harassing her for some time. The accused, along with three family members, has since been arrested by police, according to the victim's father.

What Happened

According to the victim's mother, the girl was alone at home when the accused entered the house and began harassing her. She fled to the terrace, but he followed. 'As soon as the boy entered the house and started harassing her, she went to the terrace. The boy followed her. He pulled her hair and attacked her with an axe,' the mother said.

The assault did not stop there. The accused allegedly tied the girl with a rope, attempted to hang her, and then threw her from the roof. 'My daughter was almost half dead,' the mother said. Local residents who witnessed the incident reportedly attempted to intervene, but the accused threatened to attack them as well.

Background of Harassment

The victim's family says the accused had been stalking and harassing the teenager over a period of time. 'We had tried to make him understand multiple times, but were threatened by him,' the mother said. The victim's father stated the attack was carried out in retaliation for the girl refusing the accused's advances. The accused reportedly attempted to flee the village after the assault but was apprehended by the victim's uncle before police arrived.

Victim's Condition

Dr Aditya Tiwari, ICU In-charge at the Trauma Centre, JAH, Gwalior, where the teenager is receiving treatment, confirmed her condition as critical yet stable. 'She has fractures in her jaw and hip. We are hopeful that we will save her,' Dr Tiwari said. He noted that hospital staff had been informed the attack stemmed from a prior enmity, and added he could not comment further on the case.

Community Demands

Local resident Rahul said the community is standing firmly behind the victim's family and has demanded ₹40 lakh compensation and a government job from the Chief Minister. He also called for 'bulldozer action' against the accused and his family — a reference to the practice of demolishing properties of those accused of crimes, which has become a politically charged issue in several BJP-governed states. Rahul further appealed to the government to shift the victim to a private hospital, claiming she was not receiving adequate treatment at the Trauma Centre.

Police Action

Police have confirmed the arrest of the accused. According to the victim's father, the accused's three family members have also been taken into custody. No official police statement on charges or the investigation timeline has been issued as of the time of reporting. The case highlights a recurring pattern of violence against young women who reject unwanted advances — a category of crime that advocacy groups say remains severely underreported in rural Madhya Pradesh.
