Patna, July 26 (NationPress) On the day commemorating the martyrdom of the late MP Phoolan Devi, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) hosted a tribute assembly at the Bapu Auditorium in Patna, attracting a considerable audience from various parts of Bihar.
VIP Chief and former Minister Mukesh Sahani, accompanied by party officials, paid their respects with floral tributes to Phoolan Devi and pledged to continue her quest for justice.
Bihar's Leader of Opposition and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav also participated in the occasion and spoke to the crowd.
Mukesh Sahani, affectionately known as the "Son of Mallah" or fishermen community, remarked that Veerangna Phoolan Devi, born into a Nishad family, became a beacon of defiance against injustice and caste discrimination.
"She demonstrated that women are not merely adorned with bangles; when faced with injustice, they know how to retaliate," stated the VIP Chief, adding that Phoolan Devi's legacy serves as a source of inspiration for women and marginalized groups.
Emphasizing the importance of education and awareness of rights, Sahani encouraged attendees to ensure their children receive education and to advocate for their rights.
He alleged there is a conspiracy aimed at stripping away voting rights guaranteed by B.R. Ambedkar, stressing the necessity to safeguard democratic privileges.
"If it weren't for Lalu Yadav becoming Chief Minister, the underprivileged would have never had a seat at the table," Sahani said, acknowledging Lalu Prasad Yadav's contributions to uplifting backward and marginalized communities in Bihar.
He asserted that the Nishad community, which has achieved reservations in other states, deserves the same in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, declaring, "They (NDA) have taken away four of our MLAs, but we will reclaim 40. This is a struggle to restore our dignity."
Sahani urged citizens to vote for a government that prioritizes the poor, assuring that if a Mahagathbandhan government is established, backward communities will hold significant positions, including the Deputy Chief Minister role.
In his address, Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar and the Narendra Modi administration at the Center for escalating unemployment, inflation, poverty, and migration.
"Nitish Kumar has maintained power for 20 years, and Narendra Modi for 11 years, yet the situation in Bihar remains stagnant. Farmers' earnings have plummeted, and Bihar lags in all sectors," Tejashwi expressed.
He urged the public to enact change in the state, advocating for a Mahagathbandhan government focused on the progress of Bihar.
"This NDA government lacks vision, while we (Mahagathbandhan) possess both a vision and a plan to elevate Bihar to a leading state," he stated, appealing for an opportunity to lead and transform Bihar.
