Kohima, Oct 12 (NationPress) The acting Governor of Nagaland, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, emphasized the significant role that sports play in fostering peace during a recent event. He remarked that “sports dismantle barriers, encourage understanding, and teach us to address differences through respect rather than conflict.”

At the closing ceremony of the eighth edition of the Niathu Sports Festival 2025, the Governor expressed his appreciation for Nagaland's peaceful and stable atmosphere, which empowers its youth to pursue their dreams and engage in competition without hindrance.

Among the attendees were Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, General-Officer-Commanding-in-Chief, 3 Corps, Lt. Gen. A.S. Pendharkar, and other esteemed guests.

Bhalla, who also serves as the Governor of Manipur, noted that the Niathu Sports Festival is “not just a competition, but a celebration of youth, health, and unity.”

He praised the Niathu Group and the Niathu Privilege Club for their steadfast dedication to promoting sports through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, making it one of the most anticipated sporting events in Nagaland.

The Governor pointed out that the festival has turned Dimapur into a “dynamic hub of athletic talent,” drawing participants from across India.

He expressed his joy at the record participation this year, with athletes hailing from states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Goa, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, and many others.

“Your presence here signifies that sports unite individuals from diverse regions, cultures, and languages in a shared spirit of discipline, camaraderie, and fair play,” he stated.

Reflecting on the festival's deeper significance, the Governor said, “It transcends medals and victories; it’s about promoting healthy lifestyles, nurturing young talent, and building a sense of community.”

He encouraged participants to embody the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect beyond the sports arena.

In his motivational words, he said, “Regardless of whether you return home with a medal or treasured memories, you are all champions. The true reward lies in the character you've developed.”

Urging everyone to become “citizen athletes,” he called on them to channel the same enthusiasm and discipline into their everyday lives, act with fairness, and contribute positively to society.

Bhalla extended his heartfelt congratulations to the winners, gratitude to the organizers, sponsors, and volunteers, and appreciation to the spectators who enlivened the event.

He expressed hope that the Niathu Sports Festival would evolve further as a “beacon of youth, health, peace, and community spirit – not just in Nagaland but throughout the nation.”

The Governor appealed to all to emerge as ambassadors of sportsmanship, fitness, and positivity, inspiring future generations. The event commenced with a welcoming address from Basu Damani, the Festival Advisor, followed by a comprehensive Tournament Report by Khriemelie Metha from the Core Committee. A vibrant musical performance by Vetho Rakho and Azi Rudy added flair to the evening. The ceremony also included Prize Distribution for winners and participants across various sporting categories.

Wati Jamir, the Festival Advisor, delivered the Closing Remarks, expressing gratitude to all partners, participants, and supporters who contributed to the festival's success.
