Temples were stunningly illuminated, and vibrant tableaux showcasing the life and divine exploits of Lord Krishna brought the city to life.
Devotees prepared special offerings of ‘Makhan-Mishri’ in their homes and observed fasts, eagerly anticipating the midnight arrival of Lord Krishna. The atmosphere resonated with chants of “Hare Krishna,” as individuals participated in bhajans and kirtans throughout various neighborhoods.
Children and students from multiple educational institutions donned costumes as Radha and Krishna, adding to the jubilant atmosphere and capturing the attention of onlookers. Some girls involved in the dance performances are enrolled in local colleges.
Student Aditi Negi expressed her thrill, stating, “This is my first time dressing up as Lord Krishna. Events like these help children learn about Krishna’s life and teachings, while also fostering a sense of devotion within us.”
Another student, Aastha, remarked, “Preparations for Janmashtami commenced a week prior. Everyone awaits this sacred festival with great enthusiasm. I was thrilled to participate in the event. Santosh Singh Bisht, the president of the Yo Pahad Foundation, the event organizer, stated: “Our foundation is dedicated to the betterment of the mountains and its inhabitants, particularly the preservation of culture. For Janmashtami, we arranged a series of religious and cultural activities, such as a fancy dress competition, dance contest, and the traditional Dahi Handi event. Winners received trophies, certificates, medals, and a cash prize of Rs 5100. We also distributed on-the-spot prizes to motivate participation.”
