New Delhi, July 22 (NationPress) The surge in space startups and contributions from the private sector are anticipated to be the focal point of the National Space Day festivities, as stated by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
National Space Day is observed on August 23rd to celebrate the triumphant landing of the Chandrayaan-3 mission's Vikram lander at the Moon's South Pole, marking India as the first country to accomplish this milestone.
This day acknowledges India's remarkable success in space exploration and its enhancing capabilities in space technology.
“The forthcoming National Space Day will showcase contributions from the private sector, with over 300 startups expected to engage in exhibitions and live demonstrations,” the Ministry mentioned during a high-level review meeting of all Science Ministries in the national capital.
The meeting, led by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, evaluated cross-sector scientific initiatives and urged for coordinated actions across departments in alignment with India’s Vision 2047 objectives.
“Startups have become essential to our space innovation ecosystem,” an official remarked, noting that exhibits spearheaded by startups will be central to this year’s events.
Singh was also updated on advancements related to the government’s flagship BioE3 Policy -- Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment.
Approved by the Cabinet in August 2024, the BioE3 Policy seeks to establish India as a global hub for biomanufacturing by merging biotechnology with artificial intelligence.
Singh was informed about the initial round of DBT-BIRAC joint calls under the BioE3 Policy, which attracted over 2,000 proposals.
He characterized this initiative as “a national mission to stimulate green growth, expand the bioeconomy, and create employment opportunities.”
Additionally, the meeting also emphasized educational outreach. In response to rising interest from younger students, including those in Classes 6 to 10, the Ministry is exploring avenues to enhance early science mentorship and innovation exposure.
Singh emphasized the importance of improved inter-ministerial coordination, directing departments to channel significant proposals through the Principal Scientific Adviser for strategic prioritization. “We must eliminate redundancies and collaborate effectively to achieve national goals,” he urged.
The MoS also reviewed a proposal to initiate 100 post-doctoral fellowships for Indian scientists abroad, aiming to counter brain drain and strengthen domestic research capacity.
“We must provide substantial opportunities to draw our talent back,” Singh asserted.
