Bhubaneswar, April 19 (NationPress) Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been unanimously re-elected as the President of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for a remarkable ninth consecutive term. The announcement was made at the party headquarters, Sankha Bhawan, on Saturday.

With no other nominations presented, Patnaik was elected unopposed, emphasizing his unassailable leadership within the party. His nomination papers were submitted on Thursday in the presence of senior party officials and State Returning Officer Pratap Deb.

Patnaik, who has led the BJD since its inception in 1997, remains the party’s central unifying figure. His re-election occurs at a pivotal moment as the party faces its first stint in the Opposition in 24 years.

In an interview with IANS, senior BJD MLA Arun Sahoo expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Our beloved leader has once again taken charge of the party. He has issued a rallying cry to resist the Central government’s ongoing disregard for Odisha's interests. The state government has halted numerous welfare and development projects, and we are called to intensify our struggle for the rights and hopes of our people.”

Sahoo also criticized the BJP-led state government, alleging it has impeded progress in Odisha. “Our leader’s vigor and determination are motivating. He has urged us to stand against the oppression of the BJP government and work tirelessly for the future of Odisha,” he conveyed to IANS.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and senior BJD member Amar Patnaik characterized Naveen Patnaik’s re-election as a moment of pride and encouragement for the party’s supporters.

“He has consistently been a source of strength and motivation. His leadership has infused new energy into the party ranks. Even from the Opposition, we are dedicated to serving the people of Odisha with the same commitment,” he remarked to IANS.

BJD spokesperson Santrupt Misra also commented on Patnaik’s re-election. “Everyone is thrilled. The entire Odisha is rejoicing. I am confident that the party will become even more united and robust as we move ahead. We aim to reclaim power in the next election,” Misra stated to IANS.
