What Did the NCP Delegation Discuss with CM Fadnavis?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 30 (NationPress) A prominent NCP delegation convened with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday to deliberate on several critical matters, notably the selection of a new legislative party leader and the position of deputy chief minister following the tragic demise of Ajit Pawar in a plane accident.
The delegation comprised party working president Praful Patel, state unit head Sunil Tatkare, ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Hasan Mushrif, and former minister Dhananjay Munde. This meeting is significant as it addresses a noticeable leadership void within both the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Mahayuti government.
After the meeting, Praful Patel informed the media, “We engaged in discussions with the chief minister regarding the election of a new legislative party leader and deputy chief minister. A meeting of the legislative party will be organized to elect a new leader.”
He emphasized, “We have conveyed to CM Fadnavis that a decision concerning the cabinet portfolios and leadership is necessary as soon as possible. We will determine our position after consulting with all party MLAs.”
Patel clarified that the party intends to consider the sentiments of party legislators, officials, and supporters before making any decisions.
He also noted that no formal indication has been given regarding the appointment of Ajit Pawar's wife and MP Sunetra Pawar as the deputy chief minister. “We did not discuss Sunetra Pawar’s name with the CM today. That remains an internal party matter. It is our belief, shared by the public and our legislators, that a sound decision must be reached.”
Further, he stated, “The family is still in mourning and performing last rites. We plan to communicate with Sunetra Pawar either tonight or tomorrow, once the immediate rituals are completed.”
Patel reiterated that any decision regarding the Deputy CM position would reflect the sentiments of the party’s legislators. He added, “The vacancy will be filled promptly, and an appropriate decision will be made soon.”
Earlier, NCP Minister Narhari Zirwal mentioned, following Ajit Pawar's funeral in Baramati, that Sunetra Pawar should be appointed as the next Deputy Chief Minister, stating, “This will ensure the continuation of the political legacy of the Pawar family.”
